Types of Welding Materials
Degreasing agent
Cleaning the metals to be welded with a degreasing agent helps ensure a stronger weld, facilitates grinding or beveling along the weld edge, and promotes better penetration of the molten metal. Some sanding or filing can be used to finish the weld; however, excessive welding can damage the joint.

Electrode
The electrode tool is powered by the welding machine, which supplies current to heat the material until it melts. The electrode tip is made of non-consumable tungsten. Due to irregular or weak weld bead shapes, some welds require reinforcement through additional filler metal, and the welding rod serves as the electrode supply wire.
Angle Wheat
Using an angle grinder can smooth the joint and clean the metal surface prior to welding.
Welding electrode furnace
A welding electrode is a basic welding consumable used for storing or continuously heating the electrode.
Electrode holder
Two copper cables are encased in a robust insulating sheath to conduct current back and forth between the welding machine, requiring electrode holders that are lightweight, thermally insulated, and durable enough to withstand continuous wear during operation.
Grounding clamp
The grounding clamp is used to connect the grounding cable to the workpiece or welding table, and the cable must be connected to the machine using a cable connector.
Security equipment
Due to the extremely high temperatures, welding is highly hazardous and can be fatal if not handled properly. Therefore, before handling welding materials and equipment, be sure to wear a protective helmet, earplugs, and sturdy boots to shield your feet from sparks and molten slag. Gloves should also be worn to protect your hands, and leather coverings should be used to protect other parts of the body.
Protect equipment
Welding masks protect the face and eyes from arc radiation and molten metal; one hand holds the mask while the other operates the welder. Additional protective gear includes safety glasses for hammers, wire brushes, cutting and welding operations, pliers, anvils, sledgehammers, and other tools.
Welding electrode
A welding electrode is a consumable electrode used in shielded metal arc welding. It consists of two main parts: the coating and the welding core.
(l) Welding core. The metal core covered by the flux coating on a welding electrode is referred to as the welding core. The welding core typically consists of a wire of specified length and diameter. During welding, the welding core serves two functions: first, it conducts the welding current; second, it generates an electric arc that converts electrical energy into thermal energy. In addition, the welding core itself melts, thereby supplying filler metal that merges with the base metal to form the weld.
Specialized welding wires can be classified into three categories: carbon structural steel wires, alloy structural steel wires, and stainless steel wires.
(2) Flux coating. The pressure-applied coating on the surface of the welding core is called the flux coating. Applying a flux coating composed of various minerals and other materials to the surface of the bare electrode can stabilize arc combustion and improve weld quality.
A reducing agent must be added to the flux to reduce oxides, thereby ensuring weld quality.
The high temperature of the electric arc causes some alloying elements in the weld metal to burn off—through oxidation or nitridation—thereby reducing the mechanical properties of the weld. By adding ferrophosphorus or pure alloying elements to the electrode coating, these additions are incorporated into the weld metal as the coating melts, compensating for the loss of alloying elements and enhancing the mechanical properties of the weld metal.
It can improve the weldability of the welding process, ensuring stable arc combustion, reduced spatter, good weld bead formation, easy slag removal, and higher melting efficiency. In short, the coating serves to ensure that the weld metal meets the required chemical composition and mechanical properties, while also imparting excellent welding process performance to the electrode.
