Alumina Bauxite Supplier Introduction: Bauxite, also known as Chinese bauxite or simply bauxite, is primarily composed of various alumina oxides. It is a hydrous aluminum oxide product that may contain substantial impurities and is classified as an earth-like mineral. Its color ranges from white or grayish-white to brownish-yellow or pale red, depending on its iron content. Bauxite has a density of 3.45 g/cm³, a hardness of 1–3, is opaque, and is brittle. It is relatively difficult to melt. It is insoluble in water but soluble in standard solutions of sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide. Bauxite is mainly used in the smelting of aluminum and in the production of refractory materials.

Alumina Bauxite Supplier Introduction: Main Components of Alumina Bauxite

Bauxite’s scientific name is bauxite, bauxite. Its composition is remarkably complex, serving as a collective term for a variety of hydrous aluminum oxide minerals with widely differing geological origins. These include boehmite, gibbsite, and diaspore (Al2O3·3H2O); some varieties consist of gibbsite and kaolinite (2SiO2·Al2O3·2H2O); and as the kaolinite content increases, the material evolves into typical bauxite or kaolin. Bauxite generally forms through chemical weathering or exogenous processes. Research on pure mineral specimens is limited; bauxite invariably contains other impurity-bearing minerals and, to varying degrees, substantial amounts of clay minerals, iron minerals, titanium minerals, and detrital heavy minerals.

The definition and nomenclature of bauxite are not standardized, which is closely related to each country’s resource endowment and industrial needs. Moreover, the terminology has varied over time, though the underlying concept remains essentially the same. In China, bauxite is generally defined as an ore with a high alumina content (above 40%) and an alumina-to-silica ratio greater than 2.5 (A/S ≥ 2.5); ores with an A/S ratio below this threshold are classified as clays, aluminous shales, or aluminous rocks. Among China’s proven bauxite reserves, gibbsite-type bauxite accounts for approximately 98% of the nation’s total reserves and of the world’s total reserves.

Alumina Supplier Product Usage Introduction

(1)Aluminum smelting industry. Used in China’s national defense, aerospace, automotive, electrical appliances, chemical industry, and daily necessities, among others.

(2) Precision casting. Bauxite clinker is processed into a fine powder to form a mold, which is then used in precision casting. This process is suitable for applications in the defense industry, aerospace, telecommunications, instrumentation, machinery, and medical equipment sectors.

(3) Used in the production of refractory materials for construction. High-alumina clinker boasts a refractoriness as high as 1,780°C, excellent chemical structural stability, and superior physical safety performance.

(4) Aluminosilicate refractory fiber. It boasts advantages such as light weight, high-temperature resistance, excellent thermal stability, low thermal conductivity, small heat capacity, and resistance to mechanical vibration. It is widely used in China’s steel and nonferrous metallurgy, electronics, petroleum, chemical, aerospace, nuclear energy, and national defense industries. High-alumina clinker is loaded into a high-temperature electric arc furnace operating at a melting temperature of approximately 2,000–2,200°C; after high-temperature melting and subsequent cooling by high-pressure, high-velocity air or steam jets, a white “cotton-like” aluminosilicate refractory fiber is produced. This fiber can be compressed into various forms—such as blankets, boards, or woven fabrics—and used as a replacement for traditional refractory bricks in the linings of high-temperature furnaces in industries like metal smelting, chemical processing, and glass manufacturing. Firefighters can also use refractory fabric to make protective clothing.

(5) Using magnesia and calcined bauxite as raw materials and adding an appropriate binder, the cast-in-place lining of the ladle demonstrates remarkable performance.

(6) In the production of bauxite cement, abrasive materials, and ceramics, various compounds can be used in industrial and chemical research for the manufacture of aluminum.
