Could the welding materials company please introduce the various welding methods for stainless steel welding wire?

1. Electric welding:

Stainless steel welding wire is a method in which the butt joint is heated to the molten state and then welded electrically without applying any pressure. When the stainless steel being welded is heated to its melting point, a liquid weld pool forms, allowing the nucleation energy to spread fully and ensuring intimate contact. Consequently, upon cooling and solidification, a robust butt weld is produced—much like ice forming after water freezes.

Gas cutting, arc welding, electroslag welding, and gas-shielded welding are generally classified as arc welding processes.

2. Stainless steel welding wire for arc welding under working pressure:

This is a welding process in which pressure—applied with or without heating—is exerted on the workpieces during welding to achieve electric arc welding. There are two main types of such electric arc welding: one involves heating the contact area of the stainless steel to a plastic or partially molten state, followed by the application of a specific amount of pressure to promote atomic bonding and form a solid-state butt weld, as seen in forge welding, spot welding, friction welding, and gas welding; the other type is pressure welding performed without heating, where only sufficient pressure is applied to the surfaces of the stainless steel being joined. Under the influence of this pressure-induced plastic deformation, the molecules can draw close to one another, resulting in solid-state fusion. This method includes cold arc welding and explosive welding, among others (primarily used for clad steel plates).

3. Soldering of stainless steel welding wire:

It is a metal composite material that uses a filler metal with a melting point lower than that of the base material. The welding material and filler metal are heated to a temperature between the melting points of the base material and the filler metal, allowing the liquid filler metal to wet the base material, fill the gaps in the joint, and spread throughout the base material, thereby completing the brazing process. Common brazing methods include soldering with a soldering iron and flame brazing.

Welding Materials Company: When performing electric arc welding, is it necessary to select the appropriate welding wire?

What is electric arc welding? In essence, it is a type of fusion welding—a manufacturing process and technology that uses heat to join metal materials or other thermoplastic materials such as plastics in a tightly bonded manner. Fully automated welding equipment is precisely the machinery used to carry out this welding process. In practice, electric arc welding involves heating the workpieces to be joined until part of them melts, forming a molten pool; once this pool cools and solidifies, the parts are firmly bonded, with filler material sometimes added to assist the process. During welding, in addition to fully automated welding equipment, welding wire is also required. So how should we properly use welding wire? Today, our fully automated welding equipment will explain this to you.

1. The selection of welding wire should be based on the steel grade of the workpiece, as carbon steels and high-strength alloy structural steels are typically welded using wires that meet the specified mechanical property requirements in accordance with the “equal-strength matching” principle. In addition, the selected welding wire must also satisfy requirements for temperature resistance and corrosion resistance.

2. Selection shall be based on the quality standards for the components to be welded, as the welding wire must be compatible with the welding procedure specifications, weld geometry, and shielding gas composition. Therefore, while ensuring the required properties of the butt weld, the welding consumable should be chosen to maximize welding efficiency and minimize welding costs.

3. Select the appropriate welding wire based on the thickness of the workpiece being welded and the specific welding position on site. Prior to selection, determine the recommended welding current and, referring to relevant technical literature and practical experience, choose the suitable welding wire.

That’s all for today’s briefing on welding materials. Until next time!
